Since forming in 1991 John Lyall Architects has established itself as a design office that provides innovative yet pragmatic solutions to different design challenges, with attention to the little things as well as the ‘big idea’. Each project is seen as a fresh challenge to produce something that will not only fulfil the brief but provide something more for the users.
The practice offers a democratic approach to design for their clients, being sensitive to aspirations and listening as well as looking. We endeavour to put sensitivity and thought into our designs whilst always pursuing best value. This ethos extends to interests in the detail and material of buildings: exercising the same care and attention through every aspect of a design.
John Lyall personally leads this approach with his two experienced associates, Chris Bills and Neil Young. The three maintain a close involvement from beginning to end with both the scheme and the client. John Lyall Architects is proud to engage a talented and accomplished group of project architects and assistants, whose skills are deployed to suit each project.
Our current work ranges from large scale mixed use developments, infrastructure projects and award-winning rail stations through to sensitive conversions and refurbishments of listed buildings. Our clients include public authorities, charities and private developers. Consequently our workload and experience are varied.
