John Lyall gave a talk today at the New London Architecture seminar “Designing Londons Waste and Energy Facilities”
The talk was followed by an audience of about 200 people, and it was really interesting to hear their comments and questions at the end - people are really starting to think about this fast moving area of our built environment.
Many of the new buildings discussed at the event will convert waste into energy, and are therefore really important and very green initiatives… but such Energy and Waste buildings can be huge! The focus of Johns presentation was that although such projects are very much engineering-led functional schemes, with careful thought they can still enhance their local environment. The slides (shown below) discuss the four pumping stations that John Lyall Architects have designed around the Olympic Park. These important infrastructure buildings have added to the infrastructure work of JLA.
